My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…
aboard the NCL Jade Mediterranean cruise. I attended all the seminars and have expanded my knowledge on the styles of art, the artists and history. This small seed of knowledge has sprouted to a great love of art and an appreciation for all styles. “If the pieces stirs an emotion, whether you like, love, hate, it is art”.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…the very first one! I was 20, had wandered into the lounge by mistake and stayed to enjoy. It was the first time I had heard of Krasnianski (I now own five), Paula McCardle (two of hers left the boat with me that trip) and others. The auctioneer was great at educating all of us novices as well. Since then, the educational talks have been some of my favorite.

My favorite was the first one that my wife and I experienced on Carnival to the Mexican Riviera. We were introduced to Park West and learned a lot about different artists. From then on we were hooked and on our 4 subsequent cruises we attended all of auctions, won and bought art.

The most important thing we learned about the art from Park West was to get it framed by Park West! We made the mistake of not doing it one time and regretted it to the tune of hundreds of dollars.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on a transatlantic cruise where we had plenty of time to learn about art and, best of all, about the artists themselves. Knowing about both enhanced my experience into the world of art appreciation.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was this past May on a cruise to Bermuda aboard the Gem. What a wonderful time Sandy and I had with your staff led by Erica Gilbert. It literally started 15 minutes after we boarded the Gem as we went directly to the Art Gallery. Erica’s assistant, Matt met us and Sandy immediately saw a Csaba Marcus work, when I looked over she had her hand over her mouth and I immediately knew that we were off and running (buying art). Three auctions and many hours of one-on-one conversations with Erica and her staff, we left the ship with two unique variations of works by Peter Max, three original works by other artists, the Csaba piece and a litany of great memories. As we were completing our paperwork late Saturday evening, I mentioned to Erica that she sold me a $300. Kinkade a number of years ago on the Dawn that is to be replaced by one of our new original pieces and that she attempted to sell me a Max piece that I had no intention of purchasing, but would love to own (I now own a similar Max). She asked me what has changed in the 5 or so years since then to the point now where we are so excited about learning and buying art that our days aboard ship are scheduled around the art functions. I couldn’t really give her a good answer until I thought about this for a while. The real reason is that through the extraordinary people of Park West, we have become knowledgeable, although I still consider myself a novice about the art world and the artists that Park West represent, the satisfaction knowing that the art is backed by a world class organization, and that if there is an issue the great people in the customer service department handle everything in a courteous and professiobnal manor.
We can’t wait for our next cruise in September.

My favourite West Park Gallery cruise art auction was during a Mediterrranean cruise with Celebrity in 2008. We have a collection of Disney paintings and sculptures – usually bought at The Art of Disney shops while on holiday in Florida, so imagine our delight to see a David Willardson Disney collection in the art auction on board – totally unexpected – and we bought ‘Minnie Driver’ to add to our collection. We then felt that we should perhaps have an Italian themed painting as a memento of the trip, and before we could bid on one we won a Claude Picot. Serendipity – and both paintings hang in our home and are very much admired.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was during our honeymoon. We daily went down to the 2nd floor to look at the most beautiful emile bellet piece – a girl in the red dress.

The day prior to the auction we were on land and the new wife, who was trying to get used to this whole getting married thing, was all ok with not getting that 80 dollar coach bag because we probably couldn’t afford it.

One of the auctions come around and we see another stunning emile bellet piece, this was a lithograph so more friendly on the budget. So a fantastic piece, combined with my excitement with auctions and being married = a purchase of that piece.

Later, when checking out we were looking for a piece that we could hang with it – and the girl in the red dress came up – park west worked with our budget – made it happen – and I’ll tell you what – we both don’t regret it one bit – our living room is a joy to come home to. Nedless to say that i ended up getting her a coach bag 🙂

My favorite Park West Auction was all of them. We have cruised on Several RCL ships over the past years and have always bought something, I have a varied collection but my first purchase was 2 Peter Maxx’s that my then 8 yr. old daughter and I eached picked one, hers was a flag and mine was an angel in the mixed media category. He is still our favorite artist but we have branched out to Marcus Glenn, Tarkay, Yanke and are proud to o wn one Chagall. We buy what we like and what we think is a good investment. The auction always teach you something that you didn’t know and the history of each artist. We have fun doing something we love. Deborah and Emily Garvin

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…on a cruise to Alaska with my parent’s-in-law and we had nothing better to do so we attended our first ever art auction. There we were introduced to Anatole Krasnyansky’s works and when they put Musical Laughter, a hand embellished piece on canvas, up on the auction block we fell in love. We knew right then and there we had to have it. They were also displaying Blue Bird on canvas at the entry way to the lounge where the auction was taking place. The more we looked at it, the more we loved it. To my husband’s surprise, I made arrangements to purchase it as a Christmas present for him and it now adorns our entry way for all of our guests to see. Those purchases meant to much to us that when our Golden Retriever had puppies, we chose to keep the first born and named him Kraz !!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was several years back on NCL. The Park West auctioneer showed two Fanch Ledan paintings that were being sold together. There were no bids. After the auction, my husband and I went to the viewing area to look at the pictures again. We both loved the pictures, but they were quite large and we had nowhere to put two that size. As we walked among the selections, we heard another couple talking about the Fanch’s and how they, too, found them so pleasing, but really didn’t need two. I stopped to ask if they would consider splitting the cost and buying the two along with us. We would give them their choice; however, we would have to ask the Park West staff if they would ship them to two separate home addresses. When I asked where this couple lived, they said Princeton, NJ, which is less than 10 minutes from our home in Princeton Junction. That sealed the deal. Together we bought the two pictures, and two weeks later this other couple came to our home in Princeton Junction to pick up their Fanch. What a way to make four people happy! The Fanch still hangs in our foyer and we enjoy it each and every day.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise auction experience was on a Crystal Harmony cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore in October, 1996. We went to the auctions every day and had a wonderful time with auctioneer Christopher Law. We added to our extensive art collection by purchasing several pieces, including a Peter Max, a Durer etching and a Lebadang wood cut paper collection, among other peices. We became good friends with Christopher and stay in touch even today. We have been to many other Park West cruise auctions, but this particular one stands out as special.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… We had attended one auction on a short cruise, which was our first experience and just watched. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on a week long cruise and attended EVERY auction and function that was auction related. My husband really wanted a Peter Max, so during the first pre-view of pieces the staff realized his wants and made it irresistible for him not to bid and buy it!! We also purchased a Marcus Glenn, several Krasnyansky’s pieces and a LeKinff on that cruise. We have since purchase another Peter Max , a Scott Jacobs and 2 pieces of animation art. On each and every cruise we go on, which is at least one a year, our first stop is the gallery and find out the schedule and attend each and every auction.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was my first – when I found out that I could own original pieces of art rather than just seeing them in a museum. I fell in love with a piece by Wolfson – impressionistic in style but vibrant in color. I must’ve stared at it 3-4 times in ‘stealth’ mode before finally letting the onboard auctioneer see me looking at it – I was sure it was out of my price range. Finally I stopped to look at it – again – when he was not busy, and he told me a bit about the artist. When I hesitantly asked the price, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could afford it. That was the first – but not the last! That cruise alone I bought five other pieces, and have never gone to a land or water auction where I didn’t fall in love with several pieces by several artists. I so enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the auctions, the great friends we’ve made (and kept) at these events, and the knowledge and friendliness of the PWG staff. kudos!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…
The time all members of my family had the chance of either winning an auction or winning a prize during one of Park West Gallery Auctions. Tickets drawn from a bowl are always exciting for everybody, not only because you can walk away with a piece of art totally free but because you were able to walk away with art education you did not have before coming into the cruise ship.
Art auctions are part of the total cruise experience. Without them the cruise would not be the same. Whenever me and my family travel, we try to make it worthwhile not only for the leisure of travelling but because we can learn something new. During our cruise travels, we try to attend art conferences lectured by the West Park auctioneers because it has been our experience that they are all very well trained not only at art as a science and learned to appreciate art but because they have always been very entertaining making art something closer to “earth soil walking human beings” (That travell in a cruise).

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… our first Western Carribean cruise. I spent time with my famaily enjoying the shipboard activities and food. The Vegas style shows and casino proved profitable. It filled my spirits and wallet. To unwind my wife went to the Park West Gallery and had alot of fun at the auction. On subsaquent cruises we never missed the auctions and had a very enjoyable time bidding on the art. It was conveinent to have the framing done and shipped home…. all handled by Park West. When the peices were delivered , it was like Christmas and renewed the excitement and feelings we had aboard the ship.

Our advise it to others is to relax and enjoy the auction action. Try it you’ll like it.

My favourite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was in Dec. 2009 on NCL. At the start of the auction we were told that a free piece of art which was a beautiful Linda Lekinff, would be given to the person who could yell the loudest. No one did anything and suddenly, my husband let out a blood curdling shriek which caused people in the audience to scream and come over to see if he was okay. I was shocked because he is normally so quiet but we won the art along with a bottle of champagne and each time I see my beautiful piece of art I am reminded of not only a great auction and cruise but one of the funniest moments of our marriage.

My favourite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was my first several years ago. My wife and i had been on a Italy land tour and went to Venice. Several months later took a cruise and saw Thomas Kincade’s – The Grand Canal – which we purchased. Since that first purchase of art from Park West we have been on several more cruises and purchased many pieces and feel like we have our gallery. We now own multiple Kincades, Krasnyansky, Brodinsky, La Kniff and just returned from a cruise on Carnival Freedom where we purchased Bellet and Cambier. For us the price is right, quality is spectacular and staff always helpful.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was with my son Brian. I took him, on a Royal Caribbean cruise to the western caribbean when he turned 20. I looked forward to the auction because my brother and I had been on 2 cruises before. My son knew I had purchased 7 or 8 pieces before and looked forward to attending his first art auction with me. The auctioneer had described 3 pieces for almost 10 minutes, forwarning us that there would be no “bidding” because frankly, those 3 pieces were fairly expensive and it was actually more of an educational presentation. The deal was, if anyone actually wanted them, at the conclusion of the talk when he asked if anyone liked them they just needed to raise their hand and say so, however, it would be sold to the first one who answered. Well, no one said anything and my son must have forgotten we were at an auction so when the question was repeated, my son jumped up and said I really really like them! The gavel dropped, the man said “sold”, for $14,650.00, and everyone cheered and slapped him on the back. It was about then that my son realized what had happened. Almost crying, he whispered to me, do they take payments? It all worked out, the look on his face was priceless!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was our very first cruise on RCCL. It was our first art auction. We looked at all the works of art before the auction. We fell in love with a large Zamy Steynovitz. We decided how much we could afford to spend, and waited anxiously for the auction to begin. Our selection came up for auction. The lovely lady auctioneer, spoke about Zamy, and this work of art. Next came the opening bid. My husband and I raised our bidder number. No one else bid and the work of art was ours. We had it matted and framed, and it sits proudly in our sunroom,. We love it ! Since that time, we have gone to numerous Park West Auctions at sea and on land. They are relaxing, enjoyable, educational, and fun. We have purchased many beautiful works of art from Park West.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… back in 2008. My wife and I were onboard a cruise where we were planning to be married in the first port of call (Grand Cayman). We had already purchased a house, and were working on decorating it. As part of our cruise/honeymoon we were fortunate enough to meet the Park West representative and his wife who were onboard the same cruise. We proceeded to purchase a large majority of the artwork currently displayed in our home, make friends with two wonderful people (the Park West rep. and his wife), and have Renee … the rep’s wife … photo our wedding. Everytime we walk around out home and see the beautiful works of art we purchases from Park West, we can think back to not only out trip, but our wedding and our honeymoon.

We have purchased additional art from Park West on other cruises since, but that cruise in 2008 was by far the most memorible of them all. Thank you Park West for not only selling top notch art, but for providing a lifetime of memories in our home.

My wife and I purchased five serigrphs by Itzchak Tarkay which adorn the walls of our livingroom. We were very, very impressed by the art knowledge of the two gentleman conducting the auction.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…on the Celebrity Ship Millenium in 2010. We were at the art auction and I had picked up the registration package for the friends we were travelling with. I bid on a Tarkay and told my friends I was usinng their card. They were concerned when I won the art as they thought it was on their credit card…. We still discuss it today. The piece of art now hangs in our living room, to have a second piece by Tarkay would be a wonderful addition

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on Celebrity Constellation cruise of the Baltic in July 2010. Not having any real experience in art my wife and I went along to the Art Presentation/Auction just “to see what it is all about”.
We were so impressed by the knowledge and friendly atmosphere created by Justin Swisher and his associates that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and, needless to say, attended the other art auctions during the cruise.
We finished the cruise as the proud owners of seven works of art, something we would have never imagined when we booked the cruise. An absolutely fantastic experience.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…about three cruises back when we realized that we had run out of space in our home to hang any more framed art.
So, we started buying great art for our children and they really are enjoying it!
There is no place we have ever found that is so exciting and rewarding as a Park West Gallery shipboard art auction.
The proof of which is simple: Great art, terrific prices, free art education, free art gifts and did I mention free champagne!!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was aboard the NCL to the western caribbean with my husband. It was our first time to attend an art auction. We are not really into arts but when we saw the works of Otto Aguiire ,we were mesmerized . We don’t even understand the meanings of CP’s , lithograph , serigraph etc and the most expensive framed work in our house was about $ 120.00 , the rest are from garage sales. By the end of the auction we bid on 2 arts for more than $ 2000.00. We were shocked and we couldn’t believe we did spent that kind of money for things we don’t even understand. When we went home , we looked on all our paintings and start saying we need to redecorate and put more interesting arts in our home that everyone will be asking and appreciate them. That was the stary of our art auction ventures, everytime we went cruising we make it sure to spare time on art auctions and considered different artists and start reading all their works and biographies. We went to another auctioneer arts but we think Park West has a very good selections and values.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…During my first auction on the cruise ship. I had put in my pre-bid, and was anxiously waiting for the piece to come up. I was so worried that someone else was going to put in a bid for it, after all, to me it was one of the most beautiful pieces in the room. When it finally came up, and the auctioneer called out my pre-bid price I threw my card up so high and fast I practically flew out of my seat. I got a laugh out of the Auctioneer and my closest neighbors. I think because of my enthusiasm people left my piece alone, and I won! I was so thrilled by the experience, I went to ever other auction on my 10 day cruise. I bought 5 more pieces! My pocketbook wasn’t too happy about it but it was one of the most different, exciting, and exhilarating experiences in my life. I can’t wait to do it again.

I first knew about Park West while on a cruise. I got home and received an invitation to attend a land auction in Phoenix, AZ. I went to the auction early and looked around at all the art work. At the beginning of the auction, the auctioneer told the audience that one of his workers had not shown up, and asked if there was a volunteer to help place the art upon the easel. I immediately said yes and had a good time and learned a lot. This was the beginning of several years of my association with Park West Galleries.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on the Norwegian Gem last year with my husband and Australian cousins. We ended up in a buying frenzy at each and every one of the auctions held on the ship. Now our living room, bedroom, hallway and upper landing are adorned with beautiful pieces of art. Eight of which are in our living room to be admired by all of our visitors as well as ourselves.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…December 2010 aboard the Norwegian Gem. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and whenever we go on a cruise, we always attend the art auctions. While at one of the auctions, we purchased 2 David Schluss pieces. At the end of the auction, there was a mystery auction. It turned out to be a Peter Max and 2 Agamographs by Yaacov Agam. My wife and I love Agam but have never been able to afford his works. The mystery auction was out of our budget, so we passed. While talking to the auctioneer Mike, we told him how much we enjoyed the auction and how we wish we could have afforded the mystery just to get the Agam’s. Later that night while finalizing our purchase, Mike informed us that we qualified for a Schluss Special. Instead of $150 each, we could get 3 for $150 total!!! that made our day. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, he told us that he probably shouldn’t do it, but that because it was our honeymoon, he could sell us the Agam’s individually without the Max!!! They happened to fit into our budget so we bought the pair!!!! It goes to show that the service that Park West offers is top notch! This experience made us fans for life and we can’t wait for our next cruise. Thank you so much for the great experience!

I have enjoyed the auctions on several cruises – and especially enjoy the seriograph by Svenson ‘Rabbit Watching’, as well as the poster I have of Tarkay, which is on display at the end of my hallway. I am really happy to have thegive-away prints of Krasnyansky – the dark blues, golds of the Russian ‘Golden Sunrise’ and the Linday LeKinff ‘Entre Nous. On the several cruises I have taken, the auctions have been a special time – I love Peter Max, know that he is out of my financial reach – also have enjoyed the auctions you have had in Scottsdale. I continue to look forward to your mailings – and anticipate that our next cruise will also have your auction. Super time, super offerings. I am not necessarily and art expert, but enjoy how the the posters, prizes and give-aways seem to blend in with my mother’s oil paintings and my sister’s watercolors… connisseure

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… about 5 years ago on a cruise to the Caribbean….one of many. …I was finally able to purchase a Peter Max painting….an artist that I have been admiring since my first Park West experience in 1983. My husband and I cruise yearly and go to the auctions, but never purchased. The art dealer on this cruise 5 years ago talked me through the process. He talked to me about Max and the value that I would be getting…not to mention the joy. We ended up purchasing a set of 3 Max’s that year as well as a Faunt….At this time, we had just sold our home, and were living in a 1 bedroom apt….I told my husband we would have to find a house that would have the perfect spots for each painting. Last year the Peter Max “Love” was available and I just had to have it. We purchased this one and it will be paid off before our next cruise in August. I look forward to the art auctions on the cruise ships every year…..but we are running out of wall space.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on a NCL Hawaii cruise. Our first contact on the ship was Breanna from Park West who was working a table at the get to know the ship function when you first embark. She was very nice and informative and piqued my interest in the gallery on board. We ran into Leo giving a class on art at the gallery and sat in on a very interesting session and we were regulars fixtures in the gallery from there. With the help of Leo and his wife, Breanna, and Ethan we attended a few auctions and ended up with a Rembrandt! And it was the highlight of the trip!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction was on RCI Sovereign of the Seas in 2007. It was our first art auction and we felt a little intimidated when we first walked in – but the Park West people there were so knowledgeable and helpful that they eased our minds immediately. We bought our first pieces of gallery quality art on that cruise (5 pieces in all) and we’ve been hooked ever since. We have added to our collections with each subsequent cruise. We recently went on a RCI cruise this past March and I was so disappointed to find out that there was no auction on our cruise. I was all ready with my Park West card to add to our collection – I sure hope that was a one time thing – your art auctions are what I look forward to THE MOST on my cruises! Bob A.

My favourite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on our first Carnival Cruise on the Mediterranean when my husband and I attended our first art auction. I went for the champagne but ended up falling in love with many artists because the auctioner was able to tell stories about all the art pieces up for auction in particular Peter Max. When we first saw an art piece put on the stand so we couldn’t see what it was and then had an opportunity to buy it if you wanted once it was turned around I wasn’t sure what to expect. To my surprise we loved the piece and before the bidding was finished we had 3 pieces of art for the price of one. We were hooked. We have just completed our second cruise on Carnival in theAlaskan inside passage in May and found the art auctions entertaining and informative. Again got a fabulous deal getting seven cartoon animations offered as a group in an auction labelled 45 art pieces auctioned in 45 minutes. The professionalism of all the staff to ensure all paperwork is correct and delivery anywhere in the world is assured in about 5 weeks from cruies time for unframed art works.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was while cruising the Mediterranean with my extended family. It was at the end of the art action and the Gallery was giving away a prize, a piece of art. My mother-in-law’s number was called as the winner but she was no where to be found. Unfortunate for her, one had to be in attendance to win so the Gallery had to call another number. Fortunate for me it was MY number this time! Right at that moment when I stood up, cheered and declared “I win” my mother-in-law walked into the gallery to join us stating “I had to go get ready for dinner, what’d I miss?” Well to this day, she has no idea what she missed. Along with some great memories, I get a little chuckle every time I look at that beautiful piece of art hanging on my wall.

We receive comments about the art each time we have guests. These experiences have increased our appetite for more! We need more walls but instead we rotate pieces for a new look. My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on the NCL Gem last year. We experienced engine trouble which resulted in more sea days. The Park West staff was great and provided so many more opportunities to see and learn about the art works. We purchased our first Picot and our second Krasnyansky. What a treat when we received them after arriving home and were able to hang them! They were in perfect condition. Each time we look at them we can’t help but feel good.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was one of my first cruises, where I was introduced to fine art, and was able to start my own collection by listening to your onboard expert — who suggested I not buy a Disney print for a friend but to buy the Dali I had my eye on…GREAT choice!!! All these years later, I still love looking at it! thank you!

We have been in over 15 cruises and have attended all auctions and have bought easily more rhan 20 pieces, Tarkays, Britos, Peter Max, Le Kinff, Mouly, Peter Nixon and many many more and can honestly say that all auctions have been great. We were dissapointed when in the last 2 trips one to Mexico last October and just last May to New England and Canada, Park West was not there since the art auctions are an important part of all our cruises. I can not think of one favorite auction.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was my very first one. I came home with two beautiful pieces and have since added nine more. I have collected from several artists with majority being Tarkays. Not only have I learned so much about art but discovered the joy of having beautiful art to look at every day. My four biological children and eight adopted boys have become more aware of the joy of collecting as a result. I have cruised every cruise line that goes to Mexico – and some of them twice. The art auction has always been the high point of each cruise and I never miss one. My children range in age seven to forty-nine and
have “dibs” on their favorite pieces. I have told them to wait, at age 73, I just might have another 20 years to collect. Maybe the next cruise will be my new favorite!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art action experience was… was in March of 2008 on a Caribbean cruise. The auctioneer was wonderful. I bought several pieces and fell in love with art. He was an exceptional teacher. Bidding was fun and lively. I went home with some treasures and I continue to enjoy them every day. I really liked the “total group” bids. Thank you Paark West for opening the world of art for me.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was having a large credit available and being treated as a VIP at the auction. I was invited to a special VIP evening where a Peter Max video was shown. As a result, I have commissioned Peter Max to do a portrait of my family. Michael and crew were very helpful and informative. Michael C. was the most informative art auctioneer -full of stories and a great deal of fun. I can’t wait for the art to arrive.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…aboard the Mariner of the Seas Mexican Riviera Cruise in April, 2009. We were cruising with my parents and had been huge fans of the Park West on ship auctions. On this particular cruise, we bought a few more for our collection: a beautiful Medvedev that reminded us of the sunset the very first night of the cruise and…the big one…Our Max! Yeah…An original! It hangs in our living room, perfectly lighted and showcased, reminding us of another fantastic cruise filled with wonderful memories. It is by far one of our most treasured possessions – not because of monetary value but because of what it represents. We would never have considered a purchase like that had it not been for all the previous Park West cruise auctions; the Park West crew really does their best to educate anyone who has the interest on the do’s and don’ts of art collecting! Oh..And I won an Emile Bellet print that cruise, too for guessing the worth of a Picasso! Again, something I would have never been able to know without that Park West education! (I still think Tim, our auctioneer, should have given me the Picasso!!! HA!)

The auctioneers know their merchandise and provide details about the artwork that we might have missed in a regular gallery setting. Thanks for the happy auction memories.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was an Alaskan cruise with my stepmother. I had taken her on her first cruise for as her 85th birthday present and I dragged her to the auction preview. As we walked around she fell in love with a painting but said it was too expensive. We then went to lunch where she talked none stop about how when she looked at the painting she was transported to a sidewalk cafe and hiw it was such a great feeling. After lunch she went to the room to read and I went to auction and bought the painting. When I gave it to her, she was speechless as tears rolled down her face. The painting is now proudly displayed in her dining room.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…on my honeymoon in 2003, my husband and I attended our first auction on a cruise not knowing what to expect. As we toured the gallery before the auction, I was drawn to the artist Emile Bellet’s work. He managed to capture the true essence of a woman in a way I could identify with. I now own 4 pieces along with Tarkay’s Morning Social that I won in a raffel on the ship. That experience continues to draw me back to the galleries of Park West when ever I can.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…..on our honeymoon. We discovered the art auction and thought it sounded like fun so we went and as it turns out went everyday. The first day I tagged “Reflections” by Lucille Radd and I loved it, but having justbeen married I felt we shouldn’t spend the money. Each day we went and I tagged “Reflections” just to hear the auctionier speak about it. What I loved about it was it looked like my little sister and I when we were young, all the way down to the overalls she wore all the time and the hair length of both girls, truly uncanny how it looks like us. So, we go everyday and listen to the auctionier, I tell my husband how much I enjoy seeing it everyday, he asks “do you want it?” “no, it is to much, seeing it everyday is enough” Thinking sometimes wanting things is better than having them. The last auction of the cruise again we go to see the Lucille Raad, it goes up for auction and someone started bidding. We were sitting in the front and my husband was sitting slightly behind me, so I had to turn to see him (but them I would be turning to look at the room as well) but I didn’t want to turn, my heart was aching that there were bids for “my” Lucille Raad, I couldn’t look, I just couldn’t. When the hammer fell I started to cry (like I am right now) and turned to my husband and said “someone bought it” as the tears rolled down my face he wiped them away and said “Katie I bought it”. By now the auctionier and the entire room saw what was happening and everyone started to clap. “Reflections” hangs in a prominent place in our home and I truly enjoy it everyday.

And of course, we purchased a number of works from various artists and still have them in display in our home.

After getting the one I bidded on and won, I had the finest of salespeople to assist me in my choice of framing, matting, etc. I also received the other two seriolithographs in a tube (that I had won), as well as the one I received when my charge was opened. Everything was perfect!!! My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was my first encounter with the company. While I had been a life-long artist, and therefore a lover of art for just as long, I had never had the opportunity to collect the artwork of others – much less that of other truly significant artists. It was my first experience on a cruise, as well, so I was a little bit overwhelmed. However, seeing so much tremendous artwork at the auction helped me relax, at least slightly, so that it made the experience as a whole a truly enjoyable one. In the end, while I was only 19 years old at the time – with about as little money in my pocket as any other typical 19 year old! – I was nonetheless able to successfully bid on, among two other great works, my single most prized piece of art to this day, by my all-time favorite artist: an original Picasso drawing! Ever since that tremendous experience now almost 15 years ago, I have been a loyal fan of Park West, and attendee of very nearly every auction that has taken place in my area!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…my very first cruise and my first experience bidding at any auction. I worked on a strategy of attending the auction and just observing on one day to figure out how they were conducted, and what items might be interesting to bid on. Two days later I attended the auction this time to participate and have fun. I bid successfully low and won 2 items I really wanted by Emile Bellet . It was really exciting to sit in the same room with other bidders who were obviously well to do, judging from the thousands they bid on works by artists Rembrandt, Picasso, and Dali.
The two pieces I purchased were not framed but the Park West staff was very helpful with their suggestions.

I have studied art and drawing and it has been a longtime interest of mine. It was wonderful to be able to see so many works of art up close and to hear some of the history behind the works of the artists.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise auction experience was actually our first Park West Gallery auction and we loved it. First we looked over the pictures that were to be auctioned and then we chose an up and coming artist, Marcus Glenn, who makes musical pictures come alive. The lovely lady with whom we dealt at the auction was so nice and so accommodating to our needs as well as the rest of the staff we encountered during and afte the auction, that the experience was made more enjoyable for a first ever art auction. We were so into the proceedings that when we also won another picture, we almost didn’t realize that our number had been called. What a wonderful experience! To top it all off was the actual receiving of the art several weeks later at our home with the frame exactly matching the decor of our family room where this wonderful picture is hanging. I am a musician and have lots of musicians as colleagues. Whenever they come over we see new things in the picture. I have recommended Park West to our cruising buddies because of our new experience.

We decided to check out Park West Gallery on the NCL cruise. We enjoyed meeting and talking with the staff who were all very enthusiatic about Park West and the opportunities aboard the ship. We attended the first auction, thoroughly enjoying this auction, the guests and how fun it was. The auctioneer, Travis was terrific, informative and so very entertaining. We made a purchase at the first auction. And attended all three auctions making a final purchase of 11 prints. We have received all our works and are delighted with each one.
Additionally, I had a need to contact customer service once we returned home as there was a mix up on the frame for one of the prints. I cannot be more pleased with the responsiveness and helpfulness of those that helped me get the issue resolved.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise auction would have to be my very first one. I was in the Army as a Drill Sergeant, and my wife and I decided to take a Carnival cruise as our vacation that year. While on the Sensation we attended our first auction, it was a sports night theme, one of the pieces on display was a Charles Schultz “Living Legends” with Charlie Brown pitching to Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Having grown up in St. Louis, I am a diehard fan. Well Park West did something unexpected, they were putting up art backwards and lowering the price all we had to do was bid, if we liked the piece when the auctioneer turned it around it was ours at that price, if we didn’t then we didn’t have to purchase it, and yes I got very lucky, the piece hangs in my den.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was each of the several cruises my wife and I have been on. We started, in 2004, with auctioneer Jason Betteridge explaining lithography to us, and we purchased 7 pieces of art on that trip. In ’05 we added 7 more from Rudy Rietkstins and 6 from Wesley Emmer, including a mixed media Peter Max. In ’06, we sailed to the Panama Canal, and with “Lady” Jane Lodge at the gavel, added 17 pieces including a Rembrandt. Through ’07, ’08, ’09 and ’10, we met Chris Carther, Miguel Garcia, Daniel Lyles and Martin Joubert of your auction staff and added more very interesting pieces to our collection. Each auctioneer, each cruise was different, but memorable. We look at the art in our home and reminisce about the cruises.

We bought 7 pieces on that cruise, and have been adding to them on each cruise (everyother year) since. Many of the pieces are in our home, but we have gifted many more to our children. Unfortunately we’ve run out of wall space, but fortuately the kids like our taste in art so we can keep buying and just rotate the pieces through our house to theirs. We’ve now changed from Royal Carribbean to Holland America, but still enjoy the Park West experience more everytime. Bill

My first Park West auction on a cruise was my first art auction ever, and it introduced me to all these different artists I never knew about like Tarkay. Who I absolutely adore! I was even lucky enough to win the raffle for a piece of artwork on the ship (which was going to Bermuda); and I picked, and started collecting Tarkay’s work. Even before I won I was thinking about buying one, and using my savings to buy ii, and that’s a lot of money! Especially because I’m kind of young…But I am forever grateful for the opportunity to go to such a nice art auction, which I originally just went to too look at the different types of artwork, because I love to paint and draw. And I’m not so bad at it either, I won a couple of awards, so being able to look at real people’s artwork made me think “Maybe they’ll be selling my artwork like this one day, and I’ll have the opportunity to inspire someone else.” Thank you so much!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… Last year I took a cruise with my fiance on Royal Caribbean to mexico. I went to the auction originally for the free drinks, but stayed because it was so interesting and entertaining. I went to the auctions daily for more info. and ended up getting two peices of art. I can’t wait to do it again.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… the second time I made a purchase. The first time was on a Royal Caribbean ship and my husband gave me a hard time but I fell in love with the art and just couldn’t help myself. After the piece hung in our home for a few weeeks my husband began to make comments like “that really looks good there”. So the second time I went to a cruise auction on a Carnival ship he went with me and now we have three pieces hanging in our home and we both enjoy them.

It was such great fun. At the last auction of the cruise my name was drawn as a winner; I was shocked and so excited. That piece begun our collecting of art at sea and we are so happy to have these beautiful works in our home.

My favourite Park West Gallery cruise art auction was … on our first cruise of the Greek Isles when we decided we would attend the auction. I had studied art at school and being retired wanted to get back into painting as a relaxation. The information was absorbed by both of us and given I had studied art I was able to relate to many of the excellent bits of information passed on. We therefore attended every auction on board and learnt so much more. Every day I would spend time in the Gallery looking more intently at the detail. At the end of the trip we had a total of 7 pieces on there way to Brisbane Australia. We had them framed locally and they look superb in our house. 3 Tarkays 2 Brodinskys and 1 Kraznyansky adorn the walls. I will be ever thankful for the rekindling of a passion born 46 years ago.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… on my first cruise with NCR. My best friend invited me along with her. Having seen the amazing art that adorned her walls, many of the pieces having been purchased from Park West Gallery, I was anxious to go. Within minutes I was bidding, and adding to my collection. I excitedly carried 2 large pieces off the ship, and only after I had passed through customs, did I realize that i had forgotten to pick up my luggage in the holding area.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… when I finally bought my Hua Chen. Several years ago I was on a cruise and decided to check out the art gallery. I discovered a beautiful work of art by Hua Chen entitled “Olympic Dreams.” It was a portrait of a young, dark-haired gymnast striking a pose in a floor competition. Subtly placed in the background you can see the five Olympic rings. I thought it looked like Hua Chen painted a portrait of my daughter, Megan, who was also a dark-haired gymnast with Olympic dreams. She grew up, never making it quite as far as the Olympics, but the years we spent pursuing her dreams are etched forever in my memory. I was drawn to that picture every day I was on the cruise, seeing my daughter and remembering those days. I went to the art auction, but was hesitant to spend the money. The last thing I did before the cruise ended was to stop once again to look at my “Megan.” I walked away with tears in my eyes, knowing I would probably regret that decision. A year later I took another cruise and to my surprise saw the same Hua Chen. I showed it to my friend who agreed that it did look just like my daughter. Once again, I visited the painting every day of the cruise. Finally my friend said, if it means that much to you, you should buy it. So I did. “Megan” is now hanging in my living room. I smile with pride everytime I see it. In six weeks the real Megan will be moving to the Dominican Republic to start her first job and I won’t be able to see her very often. Having her “portrait” means even more to me now.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on a recent NCL cruise. My wife went to a towel folding presentation so decided to attend the art auction. My wife told me to not even consider bidding on anything. We are not art collectors, so I told her that that would not be a problem. After about 40 minutes, they put up group of Le Kinff prints. I was seriously considering bidding on them, but I chickened out. A few minutes later my wife showed up and I told her about the prints. She informed that she just walked in when they were put up, and she bid on them and was one of the winning bidders. Well it did not end there because we also bought a Peter Max work !!!

My favorite Park West gallery cruise art auction experience was… when I went to Canada with my grandmother. I purchased a Charles Lee and my very shy grandmother bid on an Andrew Bone. She knew that I loved Andrew Bone and after she got it home she hung it in her living room for all to see. She passed away a few months ago and when I was packing away her memories and wonderful life I took down that art and on the back of it much to my surprise she had handwritten that she loved me so much and that the art was to be given to me…I cried like a baby and to this day I have it displayed in my house. I will always remember that last cruise that I got to take with my grandmother and that art work is a memory of a wonderful life that I miss so much.

on a recent cruise with Dominic Pangborn was one on the guest artists on board. I wanted to buy another of his amazing ‘Art In Motion’, but this time featuring his abstracts as a companion piece to my ‘Art In Motion’ with his geometrics. The Park West staff said one with the absracts didn’t exist, but Dominic said it did and showed it to me on his I-Pad — beautiful, just what I wanted! Dominic talked to the autioneer and it turned out his design was a prototype and he hadn’t actually produced that one yet. So I couldn’t get the art I wanted? Nope! Dominic agreed to start that series immediately, just because of my request. Imagine a world-class artist doing you, a stanger, a personal favor. What a humble service-minded man! And kudos also to the Park West staff for doing the extra effort to allow me to purchase a peice that didn’t even have an order number. Hoping to get an ‘Art In Motion’ with abstracts was one of the main reasons I went on this cruise. With extra effort by both the artist and the staff, once again Park West delivers outstanding service!

I have always been a lover of art, and my parents house is reminiscent of a gallery. It was on this vacation, at a mere 18 years old, that I joined them in becoming a collector. I will never forget that auction, as I purchased a Shan-Merry piece to begin my art collecting. To this day that painting remains my favorite, and will always be remembered as the first painting I purchased.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was on a family cruise this past April on the NCL Dawn. I bought a seriolithograph of ALOHA BUGS, because it reminded me of my childhood cartoon characters I watched as a 8 year old child that helped me get my initial grasp of the english language. I also won a signed Anatole Krasnyansky seriolithograph, which just made my day! In January 2011, some friends took me on a birthay cruise on NCL’s new ship and I attended auctions. I had never been to Art Auctions even though I’ve always admired and loved the works of artists like Dali. Peter Max, Michelangelo, Goya, Gauguin, Picasso…At the auction I fell in love with Picot , Tarkay, Krasnyansky, Marcus Glenn, and the sculptures of an artist whose name I cannot recall, but were on display all over the ship. Alas, I have always said I have champagne tastes, but beer money, so I was thrilled when I was able to buy the Aloha Bugs, and extatic when I won the Krasnyansky. I like the fact that I learned a little of the history of the artists that were presented at the auction. Thanks, Park West, I’ll be looking for you on my next cruise which will be real soon!

The Art Director finished up by having kids on the cruise create some art and then come into the final auction and they actually had the audience bidding on it while he described the artists “thoughts and emotions” while they created the art work. My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…
on a cruise to Alaska several years ago. On a previous cruise, Rembrandt’s ‘The Raising of Lazarus’ from the new Millennium Impressions intrigued me. But I was new to art and thought it too expensive for a mere luxury. The next year, I liked it even more, even more but the price was even higher. The third year, I’m falling in love with the piece, but of course the price had risen even further. The fourth year, Rocky the auctioneer saw me continually viewing this piece and from our discussions he knew I loved it but was hesitant at my first major art acquisition. He offered a discount, but I thought it still too expensive. He offered an even better deal during one of the auctions, but no, still too expensive. Rocky told me the series was almost sold out and he’d feel so bad if I left without the Rembrandt since I’d be kicking myself for years with non-buyers remorse. Finally, literally the last of the cruise, he offered one last larger discount and I made the purchase. Rocky was right, I spent six months of nights studying the etching. Since then, I have grown so much as an art appreciator, all thanks to Rocky who got me started as a serious collector and all the rest of the Park West staff who have taught me so much over the years.

My favorite Park West cruise art auction experience was life changing. My husband, who passed on in 2006 was an artist, so we were thrilled to learn when we booked a cruise in 1999 to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary that there would be art auctions. We cruised on the Celebrity Mercury to the Western Caribean, December 1999. Our first purchase was a Salivador Dali wood cut. We then learned about Zamy Steynovitz and purchased 7 of his works along with a Peter Max and an Emile Bellet. Upon our return, we were thrilled to receive an invitation to a then offered land auction in Tucson, AZ. We live in Phoenix, but made sure we attended. From that point on, we were hooked. We were offered part time positions working land auctions in Tucson, Scottsdale and Las Vegas each time an auction came to each city on the weekends. We worked these auctions from February of 2000 through the summer of 2005 with our son. What an adventure!!!!! We were able to work auctions in Newport Beach, CA, Washington State, LA and San Diego in addition to the many in Tucson, Scottsdale and Las Vegas. Meeting and working with such wonderful, knowledgable auctioneers as Morris Shapiro was a dream come true. Needless to say, we acquired over 275 fine art pieces. We were able to give some of these to family and friends as gifts, but I have managed to keep well over 220. Never, has an experience such as the cruise auction led to such wonderful memories and the meeting of other art lovers. The knowledge and great fun we had can never be matched.

We’ve attended auctions put on by other companies on cruises but they were pretty dry and boring in comparison. Park West is the best!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was . . .
My first date with my wife was on a cruise through Mexico. While the rest of our group was on deck sunning themselves we spent some time together and attended each of the auctions held during our 7 day cruise. While we did end up purchasing a few items it was the experience that we treasured the most.

After our courtship we were married and took a cruise for our honeymoon. On the honeymoon we purchased additional pieces to complement our purchases on our first date. When people comment on our collection we have a great story to share about how we began our art collection.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was our first Carnival cruise to the western Caribbean. We had no house or apt at the time yet we fell in love with Park West and the beautiful art onboard for auction we ended up buying 13 pieces. But the most wonderful part was the education we got on the artists and the art. We finally bought a house to hang our lovely art and have since went on other cruise and added 18 more pieces. I love being in our mini art gallery we call home. Thank you Park West!

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was… when my husband and I found paintings from the two artists we’d been researching for years. They were priced competitively, but included beautiful frames which made them a great deal. My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…
my first cruise, which was with Norwegian on the Inside Passage of Alaska, more than a dozen years ago. I knew nothing about art and certainly never thought I’d ever be a collector. I went to the first auction out of curiosity and purchased my first Alexander Chen, ‘Liberty Island’, merely for its patriotic composition of the Statue of Liberty. I was a naturalist speaker on that cruise and got to the next auction when it was 2/3 over since I had to do a presentation to the passengers. I snuck in the back and when the current offer was done, he immediately told his assistant to add me to the mystery offer I had missed, explaining to me that I could decline it later but that I would like it. That mystery offer was ‘I Love New York’, another Alexander Chen featuring the Statue of Liberty and an excellent companion piece to my first purchase – of course I wanted it. Afterward, I expressed my thanks to the auctioneer and my amazement that he remembered me, the previous piece I’d bought, and made the connection that the mystery offer was a good match and I’d appreciate the special price. After all, I hadn’t talked to him or done anything to stand out. He then explained that at Park West, the auctioneers don’t consider themselves mere salesmen, but rather art advisors serving their clients. Wow! What a wonderful service attitude! Since then, I bought all the Alexander Chen art with the Statue of Liberty, branched out into the rest of Chen’s work, and further branched out into collecting other artists. I now have grown into an avid student or art and have the classic collector’s problem of lack of wall space—all because that one auctioneer thought to offer me the mystery piece after I arrived late.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was…last October when my husband took two cruises back to back Carnival cruises out of Jacksonville to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We went to every auction and enjoyed every auction. We ended up buying at least 11 pieces of art. Most are hanging in various rooms in our house. Having taught Art for 12 years, I felt that I knew a lot about Art. Boy, was I mistaken! The auctioneers taught me a lot and I had fun learning. I would be hard pressed to name my favorite of all the work we bought. I do really like the Tarkey but then Marcus Glenn is an amazing young artist. The images of femininity presented by Csaba Markus grace our bedroom…all four of them! I have other artists represented in my house but I think that the works we purchased on the cruise are my favorite. I think that some of the reason is that we just had a good good time with the auctioneers.

My husband is a surfer and we knew absolutely zero about art. Sitting in a hallway with the most perfect light from the sun and ocean was an original Pauker painting of a surfer with the most fascinating wave EVER. We kept looking at it all week and eventually asked about it. It hangs on the wall in our bedroom where we wake up to that incredible multi-colored wave every morning and go to bed looking at it every night. Every time it reminds us of all the things that we love about art and collecting. our walls are LOADED now!

My husband and I had such a fabulous time bidding on the works of art that we discovered at the auction. We bought art for our home and our kids. The auction is addictive; you learn so much about art and artists. It was such a wonderful cruise and we are reminded of it as we look at all our favorite pieces. I expanded my collection on a Caribbean cruise with friends 2 years later. I introduced a friend to the auction, and she filled her home with quite an assortment of artists. These are souvenirs that don’t end up forgotten in a closet.

My favorite Park West Gallery cruise art auction experience was from the immense knowledge of the auctioneers. They were able to explain so much about each artist, their work, and everything about art that both my husband and I learned so much. Before this cruise I collected art, but my husband always thought it was a waste of money and didn’t want anything to do with it. On the cruise I coerced my husband to come with me to the auction and he learned so much about art that he has become a more avid collector than me. Whenever people come in to our house, he takes pride in educating them all about our art and the history behind them, whether they asked for the art lesson or not. He is now wanting to pick up even more art from his favorite artist, Anatole Krasnyansky, and is looking forward to going on another cruise just for the art auction. I am so glad my husband was able to take away from this experience the same love of art I have. Thank you Park West Gallery!
