Park West Gallery and First Friday Foundation Announce Darien Fernandez as the Next Artist in Residency at Park West Gallery in Las Vegas

Park West Gallery and First Friday Foundation have announced Las Vegas-based, multidisciplinary artist Darien Fernandez will be the featured Artist in August as part of the Gallery’s Artist in Residency Program.

Aimed at shining a light on the overall quality, variety, and distinctiveness of the Las Vegas fine art scene, the Artist in Residency Program will supplement and promote the work of local artists with art supply donations and the opportunity to display their original work alongside masterworks by Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Salvador Dali, and more.

Darien Fernandez, also known as “Mix City,” is a New York City-born artist whose work blends the raw energy of graffiti with the refined detail of oil painting. Raised in Washington Heights and Harlem, Darien draws on his mixed heritage and urban upbringing to create vivid, layered works that fuse hand-cut spray paint stencils with classical techniques. His unique style was shaped by early influences from street art and cartoons, formal training at the High School of Art and Design and further honed during his undergraduate studies in Studio Art at SUNY Cortland.
Inspired by a pivotal study-abroad experience in Ireland, where he learned the art of spray paint stenciling, Darien now creates dynamic, mixed-media paintings that reflect his deep connection to culture, community, and memory. His work explores themes of identity, nostalgia, and urban life, often drawing from personal passions like sports, music, and fashion. With each piece, Darien aims to bridge cultures and perspectives, crafting a visual language that celebrates the complexity of his roots and the city that shaped him.

Darien Fernandez will be at Park West Gallery at the Forum Shops Thursday, August 21-Sunday, August 24 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and again Thursday, August 28-Sunday, August 31 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to interact and learn the ins-and-outs of Fernandez’s artistic process, as he works on his craft and creates artwork live in the gallery.

Located inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace on the famed Las Vegas Strip, Park West Gallery’s current hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and Friday and Saturday (10 a.m.-10 p.m.).
