Experience Live Painting with Dray in Las Vegas

In Art & Gallery News, Las Vegas Museum

This is your chance to be a part of art in the making. Park West’s artist in residence, Dray, will be live painting in our Las Vegas gallery from 11 am to 4 pm, October 23 – 26 and October 30 – November 2. This is not only your chance to watch a true master at work, but to also talk with him about his process while he paints.

Dray is an internationally recognized artist best known for his large-scale murals and mixing street art with fine art. If you’re here in Las Vegas, you can see murals he painted at the West Las Vegas Arts Center and also see his work as part of the permanent collections of Nevada State College. San Francisco also commissioned Dray to paint several murals there.

You can see the influence of Dray’s travels in his work. Experiences in Sri Lanka, Singapore and Atlanta all helped to broaden his worldview with new perspectives on how art can play a vital role in bridging together different cultures. He also spent three years working as an art educator for Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco. While he mentored and inspired young artists there, he got a deeper understanding of art’s power to uplift and empower communities.

That commitment to community continued when Dray moved to Las Vegas in 2000. With his deep community-driven passion, he played a pivotal role in the cultural renaissance of the downtown Las Vegas Arts District.

Park West’s commitment to community is the impetus behind exhibitions like this, to give the local community a deeper look at how art is made and deeper insights into the minds of internationally known artists like Dray. Come see art happen and explore the stunning works that are part of our newest Dray exhibition.
