Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with Xochil Xitlalli
Park West artist in residence, Xochil Xitlalli, will be live painting at our Las Vegas Gallery September 16 – 21. Mexican Independence Day is September 16 and that will not only be the launch date for this event, it will also be the theme she is embracing for her live painting.
Xochil is a first-generation, self-taught Chicana artist whose work bridges ancestral memory with contemporary expression. Drawing from her Nahua and Otomí roots, she creates vibrant paintings, installations, and workshops that celebrate identity, healing, and cultural continuity. Through her art, Xitlalli invites audiences to reconnect with community, spirit, and the living traditions of Mexico. When you are a part of the live audience watching her work, you help enhance that community connection.
It’s no surprise that Xochil would choose to use Mexican Independence Day as her theme. Her body of work is a direct product of her personal experience, especially touching upon her Mexican heritage. Furthermore, Xitlalli places an abundance of importance on community, regularly providing arts education to those looking to learn. These workshops are not only limited to artistic technique, but also often include the dispersion of cultural knowledge.
Despite doing such deep, introspective work, to experience Xitlalli’s work is to experience true joy. The vibrant colors practically sing off the canvas. Whether it is one of her personified cacti subjects or a collage of shapes and color, each brush stroke brings beauty and chaos into focus in unique and wonderful ways. It is something to see and experience for yourself, making you a part of Xitlalli’s extended community forever.
