Experience the Art of Mila May – Live in Las Vegas

In Art & Gallery News, Las Vegas Museum

If you’ve spent time wandering in and around Las Vegas, you’ve probably seen a mural by Park West artist in residence, Mila May. And now you have the chance to watch her as she creates new works of art. May will be live painting in our Las Vegas Gallery December 10 – 14 and 17 – 21.

May is a multidisciplinary artist based in Las Vegas who spent years creating vibrant, large-scale works. Besides Las Vegas, her murals can be found in Henderson and Reno. Her signature style is defined by bold shapes, bright colors and whimsical characters. She says she has a couple of colors that she likes, but in each of her artworks, it’s more about how the different colors work together.

The art May creates explores themes ranging from historically grounded illustration to imaginative other worlds. Those other world themes often feature colorful and imaginative alien beings, including little green men. She is a fan of science fiction art, literature and movies and says, “that’s where the little green man came from”.

In her early days, May was just painting and drawing in her sketch book. Then, she started making stickers with her art to test how people would react to it. The stickers were a hit and her career started snowballing from there. She started painting murals during the pandemic which further accelerated her place in the art world as she moved to smaller scale paintings on canvas. Recently, May collaborated with clients that include Meow Wolf, the Life is Beautiful Festival, T-Mobile and American Express x F1.

May likes telling stories with her art, but she doesn’t always know the ending when she starts. “A lot of times the idea will just pop up in my head or I’ll come up with something in the process,” she explains. “I lot of times, I will have to come up with an explanation of what it is after fact, because that’s how I work. I make it and then I figure out what it is. I like creating art for the sake of creating art.”

Park West Gallery invites you to come and experience this artistic journey with her and learn together as the story unfolds. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to watch an innovative, up and coming artist at her craft – whether you’re a local who has seen her murals in town or a visitor looking for a unique experience. December 10 – 14 and 17 – 21 at Park West’s Las Vegas Gallery.
