Between Fantasy and Reality: The Art of Orlando Quevedo Arrives in SOHO

In Art & Gallery News, New York Museum, Orlando Quevedo

Step off the cobblestones of Greene Street and into a world where the familiar dissolves into the fantastical. Come experience the latest stop of the traveling exhibition, Between Fantasy and Reality: The Art of Orlando Quevedo, now through November 12, 2026, at Park West Gallery SOHO. For New Yorkers who think they’ve seen it all, this is the exhibition that may prove otherwise.

Quevedo’s paintings are both recognizable and wonderfully unexpected. They invite you into where reality quietly slips into imagination, and you find yourself exploring a scene the way you’d wander a new neighborhood, curious, a little lost, and entirely captivated. Every detail sparks curiosity; every canvas rewards a closer look.

Blending light and shadow, realism and fantasy, Quevedo thrills the senses with color and form designed to expand the imagination. Inspired by the great masters he admired, including Rembrandt and Rubens, he synthesizes the Impressionist interplay of light and shadow with Surrealist imagery, arriving at a style all his own: Magical Realism.

And for art lovers, there’s a hidden layer to discover. Within these paintings are references and actual images from the artists he admires, including Warhol, Grant Wood, Klimt, Vermeer, and more. You can discover the Mona Lisa, Degas’ ballerinas, and countless nods to classic art history tucked into each composition. Finding them is part of the magic that keeps collectors coming back.

Born in Cuba in 1970, Quevedo showed his talent early, studying at fine art schools and ultimately at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), now known as the University of the Arts, in Havana before emigrating to the U.S. Here, the student became the teacher, eventually serving as a professor at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Proud of his heritage and steeped in art history, he combines aspects of Impressionism, Cubism, and Modernism with a vivid, singular palette.

His work now appears in more than thirty galleries worldwide and is sought after by collectors of the genre. In 2023, he was honored as the official artist of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, with his artwork featured by the Embassy of Japan at the Japan Information & Culture Center in Washington, D.C.

This exclusive exhibition features a number of new pieces, making its New York debut. For locals who love art, it’s a rare chance to see Quevedo’s newest visions up close. For anyone looking for a respite from the frenzy of the city, it’s something better than a quick getaway. It’s a journey into the fantastic.

Join us now through November 12, 2026, at Park West Gallery SOHO for Between Fantasy and Reality: The Art of Orlando Quevedo before this traveling exhibition moves on to the next city. Come see it for yourself and add a work by Quevedo to your collection.
