Most cruisers sail to get away from the bitter cold and snow, but the Norwegian Escape will invite guests to enjoy the chilly weather at their leisure.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s new ship, slated to debut in October 2015, has some cool attractions, some of which take it to a literal level by offering the cruise line’s first-ever “snow room.”

Located in the ship’s Thermal Suite, the room blows around powdery snow throughout the day, and is kept at a frosty 21 degrees to 32 degrees Fahrenheit (-6 to 0 Celsius).

The cruise line says the snow room provides numerous health benefits, such as stimulating blood circulation in the body and strengthening the immune system.

The health benefits may even go beyond improved blood flow. A study from 2012 suggests that cold temperatures help shed calories, as the body’s “brown fat” takes calories from normal fat to burn when it becomes cold.

The chilly room is a part of the ship’s Thermal Suite, the centerpiece of the Mandara Spa that spans two decks. The room is perfect for cooling off after a day of sunbathing or after a session in the spa’s dry steam room, sauna, or samarium and salt room.

True to the ship’s name, guests can escape to a state of relaxation in the Mandara Spa with features like heated loungers, a hydro-therapy pool and whirlpools. A total of 24 contemporary treatment rooms offer more than 50 signature services for both men and women.

In addition to the spa, relaxation can be found in the adults-only Spice H2O and Vibe Beach Club. The complimentary Spice H2O has a grotto featuring video screens, hot tubs and a waterfall perfect for cooling off. At night, the space turns into an open-air dance floor.

The Vibe Beach Club, which requires an access pass to enter, features a hot tub, chaise loungers and a full-service bar.

If a snow room isn’t the kind of ice vacationers are seeking, perhaps a chilled drink in the first-ever floating Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant is in order, or from Miami’s legendary Tobacco Road bar.

For those looking for a more active experience, the Norwegian Escape provides various fitness programs, which include high-intensity cardio-boxing classes, Zumba, yoga and Pilates. Personal training will also be available, including nutritional consultation and metabolic testing.

The 4,200-passenger Norwegian Escape will begin sailing from Port Miami on weekly seven-day cruises from its home port of Miami to eastern Caribbean destinations beginning Nov. 14, 2015. It will be Norwegian’s largest vessel to home port year-round in Miami at 164,600 gross tons.
