Personal History
Born and raised during a transformative period in Azerbaijan, Yasmin’s exposure to the West had a significant impact on her imagination, infusing her grey Soviet urban surroundings with a burst of vibrant colors. This influence can still be seen in her artwork today. Growing up amidst the crumbling infrastructure and economic uncertainty of post-Soviet Baku, Yasmin found solace and inspiration in television, movies, and music coming from the West. During this time, she discovered a whole new world filled with bright colors, limitless hope, and unending creativity. This stood in stark contrast with her everyday life painted in muted, somber tones. The infusion of Western culture sparked her imagination and instilled in her a deep desire to create art that mirrored the vibrancy she witnessed on screen.
