First Look: Norwegian Breakaway Float Out [Video]

In Artists & Special Collections, Cruise Art Auctions at Sea, Peter Max, Video

February 26 was a historic day as Norwegian Breakaway, the largest cruise ship to ever be built in Germany, successfully floated out of its building dock. The 146,600-ton ship has been under construction since September 2011 and will launch in May.

Beginning at approximately 7 am (Germany time), the massive 4,000 passenger ship with her signature hull artwork designed by pop icon Peter Max, departed the building dock.  This is the first time Norwegian Cruise Line has commissioned a well-known artist to paint the hull artwork on one of its ships. Max’s artwork covers approximately 40,000 square feet of Norwegian Breakaway.
