Cruises in 2015: Better prices, better health

Need a reason to go on a cruise in 2015? Tell your boss it will improve productivity and health.

As Cruise Fever reports, there are plenty of reasons for taking a cruise in the coming year, among them being lower prices and potential health benefits.

According to “An Assessment of Paid Time Off in the U.S.,” a study by Oxford Economics commissioned by the U.S. Travel Association earlier this year, unused time off of work harms U.S. productivity. Though managers and employees recognize that time off leads to higher productivity and health benefits, Americans left an average of 3.2 paid time off days on the table in 2013.

“Despite the myriad benefits of taking time off, American workers succumb to various pressures—some self-imposed and some from management—to not take the time off to which they are entitled,” said Adam Sacks, President of the Tourism Economics division of Oxford Economics, in a written statement. “Leaving earned days on the table harms, not helps, employers by creating a less productive and less loyal employee.”

A total of 61 percent of surveyed employees viewed time off as improving physical health, while 55 percent said it improves mental health. Managers were higher at 76 percent and 67 percent for improvements to physical and mental health, respectively.

Employees in the report said coming back to work after taking time off gives them a feeling of renewal, being refreshed and ready to focus.

Cruise Fever also says taking a family vacation on a cruise can lead to new, cherished memories. Cruise liners are beginning to offer a variety of accommodations for vacationers, whether it’s for single travelers or multiple families, in recognition of this. These accommodations, along with innovations like robots serving mixed cocktails, are offered to guests aboard the Quantum of the Seas in 2015. Click here for more details on the future of cruising.

If prices or time are a concern, Cruise Fever reports cruises are more affordable and can be quick jaunts. For instance, Carnival offers 12-night cruises for as low as $40 per person, while Royal Caribbean has seven-night cruises starting at $45 a night per person. Additionally, cruises can be as short as two to five days to the Caribbean or Bahamas.

Other reasons include:

    • Opportunities to visit multiple places and cultures
    • Making new friends
    • Romance
    • Visiting exotic locations

My wife and I first attended a Park West auction on board over 12 years ago, and we have bought a number of prints during the auctions. We have been very satisfied with the quality of the art and the framing. However, over the past few years we have been so turned off by the carnival barker approach that the Park West auction teams have taken (on Celebrity ships, at least) that we haven’t sat through a single auction. They are obnoxious!
It’s a shame that such a classy company has adopted such cheesy tactics.

I love cruises. They give you the opportunity to learn and see several cultures one time. I also learned about art at the auction which I loved. Oh and the food…to die for. Cruising helped me to just relax and forget about the world for a little while. I recommend cruise vacations hands down (y).

In early November we purchased 3 pieces to start our collection. We have been curious but never purchased art away from home before. I took the plunge and don’t regret it. Park West has been wonderful to deal with. Everything has been exactly as we were told it would be. Friendly, professional and very organized. From the experts front line on the ship to the customer service when we call to follow up on deliveries. Thank you Park West, we look forward to doing more business in the future.

Never thought that I would collect ART, but after attending the Park West Gallery’s Auctions my wife and I are hooked. We always attend the ships auctions while cruising and attend the land VIP auctions. We love all our arts and the frames are well design. It is always great to interface with the artists, memories that will never be forgotten. Great experience always with the staff from Park West, they are very knowledge of all of the artists and their works.

I have been very fortunate to attend the Park West VIP cruise experience as a guest, and personally invited to the land events. I must say, that attending has opened an entire new world for me and am now an avid art collector. I am always so impressed with learning about art from the artists themselves and from the extremely knowledgeable and facinating Park West staff. It has been an honor and priviledge to attend the functions and I would love to experience another VIP cruise in the not too distant future.

I’ve been cruising since 1995, and taken over 15 cruises. Since then, I’ve purchased many pieces of art work from Park West. I’ve also been invited to two land VIP events, and last October, attended my first VIP cruise. Love every event, and the lectures given aboard the ships. It’s also a great opportunity to meet in person the artist. Looking forward to my next two cruises (March & Nov).

I went for an 10 day cruise to alaska on Princess Star and met Dave and Lesleigh. I fell in love with Tarkay and Marcus Glenn. I spent over 20K and purchased art for myself and my family and friends as gifts. I would love to go on a VIP cruise too! And I would love to go to the Yucatan Peninsula. The western caribbean is one of the destination choices, along with the panama canal and trans atlantic. I am bathed in beauty in my home. Thanks for the great introduction to the art world. And thank you Dave. Bidder 111!

We cruise 3 times a year and Park West is our 1st stop when we board the ship. We have collected at least 15 different pieces we did get turned off on a Europe cruise by the circus type sale so we did not buy any thing. For us Park West have a fantastic business model we love them.
