Varvara Shavrova (1968–)

Varvara Shavrova was born in Moscow in 1968, the daughter of the eminent Russian designer Vladmir Keidan. Educated at the English Special School and the Polygraphic Institute in Moscow, she was quickly recognized as a rising young talent and she made an immediate impact on the European Art world. Her energy and vision combine the romance of Ancient Russia with the vigor of the new liberated artistic spirit. Her figures swirling and emerging from their background are symbolic of freedom and emotion breaking out from constraint. Her bold strokes and vibrant colors add to the impact of her art. Numerous exhibitions of her works have been held since she left Russia in 1989.
