Costa (1955–)
Costa is considered by many to be one of the most talented contemporary painters working today. Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1955 Costa’s family heritage was rich in creativity and culture. Costa’s grandfather Ernesto was a colorful musician and bullfighter who influenced young Costa’s life and filled his early years with excitement and travel. Costa’s father Sergio was an author and playwright who documented the lives of such famous literary giants as Hemingway and James Joyce. He often illustrated these works with watercolor scenes or pen and ink sketches.
Costa’s early years were spent painting and sketching scenes form the Spanish countryside. He was also an imaginative child who enjoyed reading about the great Spanish master Goya. The rich history Goya lived was an inspiration to young Costa and gave him the desire to become the artist he is today.
As a young art student, Costa traveled to France where he was exposed to the great French Impressionists works such as Monet, Renoir, and Degas. Costa spent many days touring the museums of Paris studying French Impressionism. This marked a turning point in Costa’s career and encouraged him to pursue creating paintings filled with vivid color and dramatic lighting. His fluid and exciting compositions of flowered fields and water scenes are collected by art lovers worldwide. Each painting is a rich and powerful explosion of color and light that rewards the viewer with a lifetime of passion and beauty.
